Affiliate Programs – A Genius Marketing Plan
Thanks to the Internet, affiliate programs have grown exponentially over the past decade plus. The success experienced by online entrepreneurs is in large part due to the expansion and popularity of affiliate marketing. Who can argue with a business which multiplies its revenue and minimizes its marketing expense by developing affiliate marketing campaigns? It would be a challenge to find anyone who could make a plausible argument against this.
The Internet has annihilated conventional barriers to several industries and sectors of business around the world. One such barrier is that of commercial communication, otherwise known as advertising. The online market presents something with which past eras are unfamiliar. As a result, the marketing industry has been transformed, and pushed forward into an age of technology. As a result, affiliate programs are now a widely accepted marketing method.
The nice thing about affiliate programs, is that they do not stray too far from traditional marketing methods. Nonetheless, they do entail some aspects which are completely foreign to conventional marketing. Aside from the obvious fact that they are on the Internet, affiliate programs are positioned upon a strategy of commission and assortment.
The first fundamental distinction is the way in which Advertisers now pay for marketing their products or services. Instead of having to come up with a major allocation of funds prior to the marketing campaign, the Advertiser is only required to pay its Affiliates upon completion of a sale. What this means is that the Advertiser does not pay out of pocket for marketing. Rather, the costs of marketing are taken from the revenue produced by each sale. This gives the Affiliate additional incentive to promote the Advertiser’s offer.
The second main difference is the way in which the advertising campaign is mounted. Rather than running campaigns through an advertising agency and standard media such as television, billboard and event sponsorship, it is done through a network of websites. These subsidiary websites (ie. Affiliates’ Websites) agree to host the banners and other advertising materials, in exchange for their commission. This form of free advertising means that a company can easily spread it’s advertising to an unlimited number of people from countries all over the world, through it’s sheer variety and breadth of websites.
If you pay attention, you will notice that many of the most successful companies offer affiliate programs as a means of marketing, in addition to conventional marketing methods. More competitive industry, such as the sale of digital products, have taken advantage of affiliate programs, experiencing outstanding results. Since the product is digital, and generally has no additional cost of goods sold associated with it, Affiliates often earn the majority of the revenue produced by each sale. Thus, affiliate programs are mutually beneficial to both Advertiser and Affiliate. The expansion of the advertising sector has both fueled digital product sales, and expanded affiliate marketing due to the popularity of digital products.
The advantage of Affiliate Programs, is that advertisers who join an Affiliate Network, they have no out of pocket marketing costs.
