How To Cut Your Research Time From Days To Minutes In Your Search For The Best Home-Based Business

December 3rd, 2009 Steve Sheeren 0

Owning your own business and working from home can have a great deal of appeal…

* You are “the boss”Make Money

* You set your own schedule

* You can work in your pajamas ( if that’s your thing!)

* Work/life balance is something that YOU control

* You do what you want, when you want

There are, of course, responsibilities that come with all of those things….you have to actually DO the work! Sometimes its just the idea of having a home-based business that is sexy, not actually running one. If you are serious about finding a home-based business, it can be downright confusing. A Google search for home-based businesses will reveal an endless procession of opportunities for you to make millions. They all sound soooooooo good and so easy. Which is the right business for you?

If making that leap from sexy idea to real-life decision is in front of you, here are seven extremely useful questions to get answered before you make the investment of time, money and effort necessary to make ANY home-based business thrive.

1. Will this be something I can get excited about and be proud to represent

YOU are the only one that can answer this question. It will be your authentic passion and belief in the business you will be running that will carry you through the challenging days, weeks and months ahead of you. If you believe wholeheartedly that the product or service you represent has outstanding value, then that belief will shine through in everything that you do as you market your new business. Be sure the product/service is right for you before you attempt to make it right for others.

2. What is the market like for this potential home-based business?

Take a very hard look at the potential market for the opportunity you are considering. Even the greatest product in the world will fail if nobody is interested in it. So is the market for this home-based business growing? Are there possible new markets coming available? Will you be trying to sell ice cubes to the residents of the North Pole?

3. What is the competition for this product/service?

Take into account all of the different aspects of the home-based business opportunity and figure out who else can offer something that matches. Are there a large number of competitors in this business? You may have to differentiate yourself quite a bit if you are to get your message to your target market. You will be better off with an opportunity where there is not a glut of competitors and that has a strong message of value.

4. Does the company stand behind their product/service?

If the company doesnt believe in the value of its offering, why should you? Do they offer any sort of satisfaction or money-back guarantee? If so, how much? And how long is this guarantee available to the end customer? And who is responsible for refunding the end customers money….you or the company? It is great to have the confidence that the company you represent stands 100% behind their product and behind you.

5. What kind of training is available on the product/service and how to market it?

You can have an absolute love of the home-based business you are starting and all the motivation in the world to market it, but if you don’t have a proven process you will end up like the majority of people who start a home-based business….losing money. Be sure to explore the training that is available, both quality and quantity. If marketing your home-based business to others is part of how you will make your income, be very specific in asking about the marketing training you will receive.

6. Once your new business is up and running, what king of on-going support is available?

Look hard at the opportunity and get this question answered! If you are on your own after any initial training, your path to success will be much more difficult. Who can you turn to for support and to get questions answered? Who can you connect with to gain additional ideas and strategies? How long will this type of support be offered? Be sure to look for some type of forum or genuine community you can tap into once the start up phase of your new home-based business is over.

7. How much investment is needed to enjoy true success?

Some opportunities have very low start-up costs while others will run much higher depending upon the product or service being offered. Obviously you must consider what you are willing and able to invest. Consider, too, how quickly you are paid and how much you will need to sell in order to recover your investment. Discover what the start-up costs will be and what the on-going costs will be to run your business. Are there any monthly minimum product orders that must be fulfilled?? You will also want to find out what, if any, inventory you will need to carry in order to successfully run your business from home.

This list of “must ask” questions may not be the only questions you ask in your search for a home-based business. Getting the answers to these questions and then comparing those answers for all of the home-based businesses you are considering will lead you to the one that is best…..for you!
